A glazing sealant has a fairly simple job on paper, but in reality it's expected to cope with movement, changing weather conditions and years of exposure to the elements. If it doesn't, the repair won't last as long as it should.
Our Rebuild Multi Purpose Glazing Sealant has recently been reformulated using hybrid MS Polymer technology to improve its overall performance. The previous version was water based and suitable for general glazing applications, but the new formulation provides a tougher, more durable seal with improved adhesion and greater resistance to weathering.
The improvements aren't about changing how the product is used – they're about making it perform better once it's on the window.
Compared with the previous water-based formulation, the new Rebuild Multi Purpose Glazing Sealant offers:
Excellent adhesion to almost all common building materials
Can be applied to slightly damp surfaces
Improved durability once cured
Better resistance to UV exposure and weathering
A permanently flexible seal that moves with the substrate
A solvent-free, isocyanate-free and phthalate-free formulation
Can be overpainted with most water and solvent-based paints once fully cured
Being able to apply the sealant to slightly damp surfaces is a particularly useful improvement for anyone carrying out repairs on site. You don't always have the luxury of waiting for perfect conditions, and a product that performs reliably when the weather isn't ideal can help keep work moving.
The sealant is suitable for bedding in glazing units in both timber and metal windows and provides a durable, permanently flexible seal for internal and external applications. It's easy to apply using a standard cartridge gun and cures on exposure to the atmosphere, making it a practical alternative to traditional linseed oil putty.
The reformulation doesn't change what the product is for. It simply gives tradespeople a glazing sealant that performs better, lasts longer and offers greater confidence that the repair will stand the test of time.
